Breeding is a story of human success and development, and it stands for order, systems and nurturing, but also for selection and culling. Breeding inescapably accompanies us throughout life and is indispensible – at least when it comes to feeding the world’s population. The idea of my book is to bring the natural order of breeding into an “über-order” through an artistic-esthetic design. The chosen title of “Breeding & Order” sounds military-like in German and awakens memories of dark and terrible times. But there are also dark and terrible chapters in the story of breeding – today, not only in the past.   It is thus not coincidental that all my plants and animals are in “rows and parts”. I also sought after the precision of breeding in the photography. Usually exactly parallel and without any natural perspectives, my pictures show a small cross-section of the bred animal and plant world. It was always my goal to aesthetically arrange and portray them objectively; in other words, independent of their previous history, variety or breeding method. Depending on the point of view and cultural background, the pictures range from lovely and dream-like to oppressively brutal. Walter Oczlon, 2011
